rethinking food, part 1b

I’ve been working hard to get ready for the class I’m teaching on Chinese Medicine Nutrition.  Learning how to see food differently, looking at language I use all the time in a different way, revisiting the basic principles of Chinese medicine, has been, well, mind blowing.  So many things to share with my patients and students, and through this blog.

But it’s getting late for me, and I came across something today that I really wanted to share with you.  It’s from a book called Recipes for Self-Healing by Daverick Leggett (and I highly recommend this).  He offers this quote from Norman Cousins:

‘The greatest force in the human body is the natural drive of the body to heal itself – but that force is not independent of the belief system, which can translate expectations into psychological change. Nothing is more wondrous about the fifteen billion neurons in the human brain than their ability to convert thoughts, hopes, ideas and attitudes into little chemical substances. Everything begins therefore with belief.‘  (emphasis mine)Image
